Does my clipboard go to the cloud, or is it peer-to-peer?

Through our server, not peer-to-peer. Each clip is encrypted on your device with AES-256-GCM before upload, so the server only stores ciphertext and has no key to read it. Going through a server is what lets your devices stay in step on different networks, far apart, or when they are not online at the same time. The Security page has the full design.

Do I need an account?

No. Devices link with a QR code or a 6-digit code; there is no email or password. Setup gives you a 16-character recovery key. Keep it safe: it is how you get back in if you lose every device.

Does it work on Linux?

Yes. Download the .AppImage, .deb or .rpm from the download page. It works with the iPhone, Android, Mac, Windows and web apps, with the same end-to-end encryption.

How fast is the sync?

A pasted clip is sent right away; typed text is sent when you pause. It appears on your other devices as soon as Cross Paste is open on them. Tap it there to copy.

What happens if I'm offline?

Sending and receiving need a connection. Clips you already sent wait, encrypted, on the server until your other devices come online. Free keeps them for 24 hours, and always keeps your latest clip; Pro keeps them for as long as you have Pro.

Can I use it for work with sensitive data?

Clips are encrypted on your device before upload, and the server only stores ciphertext. Anyone who can use one of your linked devices, or who has your recovery key, can read your clips, so only link devices you control and keep the key private. It handles text only.
